"Lovely day for a Guinness" -- on the side of a pub in a tiny town south of Dublin

Guinness

It would be unfair to characterize a country's culture by anything material, but one cannot help but notice the abundance of Guinness signs all over Ireland.

Signs in the happening Temple Bar (Dublin) area, as well as in the most rural boonies I've ever seen, proclaim "Guinness is Good for You" (a statement that would probably be illegal in the United States), "Guinness for Strength," "Lovely Day for a Guinness," "Guinness as Usual," and the ubiquitous "Guinness Sold Here."

A cab driver asked us on the way to the theatre, "So, have you had a few pints of Guinness since you got here?" "No, just a few sips," we replied. "Guinness is good for you, you know," he informed us with sincerity.

"Guinness Official Sponsor of Rugby World Cup" -- on a pub in Temple Bar, Dublin. "Guinness For Strength" -- on a pub either in or around Dublin "Guinness As Usual" -- on a pub in a tiny town south of Dublin. "Guinness As Usual" -- on a pub in Dublin. "Guinness For Strength" -- on a pub in a tiny town south of Dublin. "Lovely Day for a Guinness" -- on a pub in a tiny town south of Dublin. Empty Guinness barrels -- a common sight in the alleys of Dublin. Painting of a fiery redhead enjoying the drink -- on a pub in Temple Bar, Dublin. Guinness, born of our land. Temple Bar. Guinness, emperor of malted liquors. Temple Bar.
