Off the beaten track (in fact, off the road permitted by the rental car agency) we find a rugged, rocky coastline and a small village nestled in the hills.

I'm assuming that's the northwest coast? Due to the car rental agency restrictions, we didn't get a chance to see that! How did you find the driving there? I've heard it can be scary in parts.
