New Orleans is the best place in the world. Ive lived there all of my life and there is no where else like it. Katrina put almost 9 feet of water in my families house and forced us to move to Texas. in late november my family moved back to new orleans and are living on st. charles until my house can be fixed. I lived less than a mile away from where the levee broke. Ive also sailed all my life, and the burning down of Southern Yacht Club was just as hard to accept being almost my second home.
But now things look different. I now sail out of teh construction site of the yacht club, ready for it to be rebuilt. Even though there was so much distruction to the city, the french quarter, and most of uptown is still fine. Damage was only really bad where flooding took place. The entire city didnt go under water, but about half did. Magazine street is fine, and I actually go to the coffee shop there almost every day. The street cars are shut down for the time being, because one of the street car warehouses flooded.
New Orleans will be rebuilt. Not only are we back, we will be back even stronger than before. For those who think new orleans should not be rebuilt dont know what they are talking about. more and more shops, resturaunts, schools, and businesses are opening every week. Even Tulane University and Loyola are back in school now. New Orleans is still the best place in the world.
